Do marine fire systems need to comply with AS 1851?

Yes. Fire protection equipment on vessels, pontoons and land-based port infrastructure is inspected and tested to AS 1851-2012 routines, alongside your maritime survey and safety obligations. How often should extinguishers on a commercial vessel be inspected?

Portable fire extinguishers sit under Section 10 of AS 1851-2012, with six-monthly and yearly routines plus a five-yearly service whose detail depends on the extinguisher type, and a recharge after any use. On working vessels we align extinguisher servicing with engine bay suppression and detection panel testing so everything is signed off in one visit. Note that vessels in survey can carry marine safety requirements over and above AS 1851, and we work to whichever obligation is the higher of the two.

Can you service fire equipment on floating docks and pontoons?

Yes. Safe QLD routinely services hose reels, hydrants and signage across floating docks and land-based marina infrastructure. Our technicians carry the equipment needed to test hydrant flow and hose reel operation on over-water assets safely and to standard.

Can you recommission fire systems after a dry-dock refit?

We do this regularly. After a refit or dry-dock period, Safe QLD performs pre-certification inspections and recommissioning of all fire protection systems, detection, suppression, portable equipment and emergency lighting, and provides the documentation you need for survey and certification.
